Friday, August 12

Friday, August 12 Up early and after breakfast followed with a Provincial executive Council meeting all morning to discuss the upcoming rally on Saturday, October 22 at the legislature in Edmonton Alberta.  Got away before noon and drove to Canmore to have a burger from A&W before heading home.  Arrived home at 1:30 PM just in time to start a load of laundry and get all my biker gear on and head to Blackfoot Motorsports. Upon arriving, there were dozens of BMW Motorbikes set up for us to test drive.  I had pre-arranged to drive the 1250 RT, a speed bike crotch rocket with a ridiculous amount of power. After my friend Chris told me to throw my leg over the seat, he proceeded to turn on the giant visual display screen and give me the guided tour of all the bells and whistles including the remote control windshield that goes up and down to whatever height your preference is and a wicked Bluetooth system.  After we made a donation to charity and filled out the...

Wednesday August 10

Wednesday August 10 Same format to start the day with up early and breakfast and in meetings all morning. Nice lunch and a short meeting and we had the remainder of the afternoon off after we listened to six of the united conservative party leadership candidates speak at a forum. Very mixed reviews on their understanding of the education portfolio and needs in Alberta but we were glad they attended nonetheless.  We decided to go for another hike so Karen and I hiked up a completely different mountain called Tunnel Mountain which took only an hour up and an hour down but it was extremely hot! The views over top of the town and Bow Valley were phenomenal. After we hiked back down, had a quick shower and headed downtown to meet with all the Calgary Catholic ATA local 55 delegates at a very nice restaurant and distillery called Park distillery. We had family style food where they brought multiple bowls of food and put it on our tables to share. What a great experience!  Vis...

Thursday, August 11 Up early again and breakfast and meetings and lunch. A full afternoon of meetings today and a 15 minute presentation closed the day at 4 PM.  We hiked downtown in a hurry to make it to hello sunshine sushi and happy hour that ended at 5 PM. We ordered half price sushi and drinks And were absolutely stuffed when we left. We walked around the town and stopped and bought some tea before heading back up the hill for the evening entertainment. I went and watched the end of the Winnipeg Montreal CFL football game and made my way to the dance. Murray and I did some fancy Ukrainian dancing moves to the song Ra ra Rasputin and left just before midnight. Another exciting day in the mountains!

Monday August 8

Monday August 8 Awake At 5:09 AM and out of bed by 5:30. Met my friend Karen and drove to the base of the gondola at Sulphur Mountain. Up the mountain we went for an hour and 45 minutes and arrived at the top to witness an amazing sunrise over the mountain peaks and only the two of us up there. The gondola didn’t start running until 8 AM so we had 15 minutes to ourselves. We hiked up to the radio tower at the top and the 360° view was completely stunning. We spent some time at the top but once the crowds began to arrive, we grabbed a cup of tea and headed back down the mountain. 90 minutes later we arrived in the parking lot, jumped in the car and zoomed back to the Banff centre for our 10:30 AM meetings. Break for lunch and a few more meetings in the afternoon followed by a secondary hike down to the river and out towards the Hoodoos and back in the 30° heat with very little wind! Delegates from around Alberta began to arrive in the afternoon and we had some impromptu meetings w...

Tuesday, August 9 No Early morning hike today! Up early and preparing for meetings. The opening Keynote with former Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi was exceptional and back to back additional meetings with Alberta‘s provincial executive Council and Naheed was extremely informative.  I attended a couple of sessions on collective-bargaining and went to the fun and frolic reception put on by morgex insurance. Was unsuccessful in winning a prize but had some nice beverages and a giant foot-long hotdog before heading over to the entertainment centre where we watched seven films from the Banff international film Festival last October. They were exceptional and it was a wonderful relaxing evening. Another great day in the mountains!

Sunday August 7

Up at 6 AM and off to the golf course. One of the first to arrive before seven and set up all the golf carts and tents for the players and their caddies. Most of them arrived around 8 AM to prepare for their teetimes from nine until 11 AM. Was finished shortly after lunch and was able to walk around and enjoy some of the final round of golf! Headed home and packed up multiple suitcases and work supplies and headed for the mountains! Arrived in Banff late afternoon, had a bite to eat and walked around the town for a couple hours before calling it a night early.

Sat Aug 6

Day 4 at the SCC OUT THE DOOR BY 630 am and busy moving carts around. Spent the morning at the bottom driving range with 25 golfers and 25 caddies from 8–11. Once everyone teed off by 1130 we cleaned up and done at noon.  Sat on 15/16 for a few hours then walked 15-18 to watch the rest of the tournament.  Volunteer appreciation party at 4-6 was very nice with a steak salad and 2 beers.  Zipped home to pick up Krista and take her to the Keg for supper and off to Bullet train at Chinook. Busy day but fun times!

Tuesday August 2nd Travel day! Woke up at auntie Etta‘s and had a shower and back to mom and dad‘s for breakfast. Hugs all around and off we go. Stopped at Costco to fill up because prices were cheap! Back on the highway and headed west. Stopped in Kindersley for a quick break and a London fog and headed for the board.
