Friday, August 12
Up early and after breakfast followed with a Provincial executive Council meeting all morning to discuss the upcoming rally on Saturday, October 22 at the legislature in Edmonton Alberta.
Got away before noon and drove to Canmore to have a burger from A&W before heading home.
Arrived home at 1:30 PM just in time to start a load of laundry and get all my biker gear on and head to Blackfoot Motorsports. Upon arriving, there were dozens of BMW Motorbikes set up for us to test drive.
I had pre-arranged to drive the 1250 RT, a speed bike crotch rocket with a ridiculous amount of power. After my friend Chris told me to throw my leg over the seat, he proceeded to turn on the giant visual display screen and give me the guided tour of all the bells and whistles including the remote control windshield that goes up and down to whatever height your preference is and a wicked Bluetooth system.
After we made a donation to charity and filled out the waiver, we were on our way! We headed south of Calgary to Okotoks and then worked our way back through some country roads with lots of turns and hills. My bike had incredible acceleration and was extremely quiet. The front end weighed so very little and was extremely easy to turn. At first, it seemed like such an incredible ride but after more than an hour of having my knees bent backwards and leaning forward, my wrists were getting sore and I began to appreciate my Harley Davidson motorbike more than usual. When we finally came back into the city and pulled up to a stoplight, we realized how crazy warm it was. The motorbike temperature read 35°C and we were roasting inside our leather.
We arrived back at the shop and consumed two bottles of water and a sandwich. We stayed and visited for a while and then came home and had a delicious meal of chicken wings and salad. We watched an incredibly fun movie called ‘The Valet’ on Disney+ and I really really really enjoyed climbing into my heavenly bed with the air-conditioning on. A week in Banff with no AC gave me a much greater appreciation for my own home. Let the weekend begin!
