Huge biking day. Up at 630. Breakfast at 7. Packing by 730. Gone by 8. Our biking guides are tyrants!! ðððĪŠ
Fueled up at the local Co-op and headed East from Medicine Hat for 30 mins before headed south towards Cypress Hills. Going through the park was gorgeous with the road rising into the hills and lots of trees. I had never been in this area before. It would have been nice to stop, but we were on a mission to get to Billings so onward we go.
The next couple hours were nothing but thousands of acres of ranch land. Grass and cows and cows and grass and grass and cows and cows and grass and- fence posts! (For reference see Arrogant Words Canada Song - Rocks and Trees -
We stopped at Havre to tour the Buffalo jump and fill up with fuel then off to Fort Belknap before turning south through the reservation for another couple hours. Beautiful views but difficult to enjoy them at 70 mph on a two lane with no shoulder and curves and hills galore. Phew.
We rolled into Grass Range Montana and fuelled up - both the bikes and us - we had lunch at 3pm!! Yikes.
Went down in a valley before the town and the heat shot through the roof and then cooled down as we came back up. Talked to a couple in a truck that pulled in after us and they said their temperature on the vehicle shot up to 97 degrees in the valley. SO HOT!
Back on the bikes and another 90 minutes into Billings. Drove through a nice rain shower and cooled things off but 15 minutes later it was back in the 90s.
Finally arrived at 630pm. Long day.
We took a few photos at some ballpark and made our way to the Springhill Suites. Checked in as quick as humanly possible and shed multiple layers of leather and into shorts, T-shirt and flip flops and over to the Texas Roadhouse for supper. Everyone had a big old steak but me - too big of a lunch so I’m eating light tonight.
Another long day tomorrow from Billings to Rapid City. Off to bed!
