Friday July 15

 Friday July 15

Up at 615 breakfast at 730 and on the road after 8am. Costco was only 3 mins away so we got Premium fuel for $4.99 ! Smoking hot deal.

Onto the highway and headed west on the I90 Interstate. Different kind of ride on the interstate! A lot more room but the speed limit jumps to 75 and even 80mph!! Yikes!

We got a couple hours out of Billings and rode for an hour before stopping at the Battle of Little Bighorn and Custers Last Stand. It was pretty fascinating. A lot of death and the last battle won by the indigenous people ever as well as the biggest battle ever west of the Mississippi  River.

We left around 1 and stopped for lunch in Sheridan. 95 degrees and not a cloud or breath of wind. It’s a miracle we didn’t melt.

Back on the bikes and drive 60-90 miles and refuel as our bikes are working extremely hard in this heat and we are going through fuel like popcorn and refueling at $5.50/gallon for premium. Ouch.

Through Gillette, Spearfish and Deadwood with a couple of showers and thunderstorms too cool things down but very difficult to ride in when it’s pouring.

Pulled into Rapid City before 6 and found our Motel 6. The pool was full of water but also garbage and algae. WTAH? The rooms were barely livable and looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. Lots of flies to keep us company and a few other unspeakables.

We only paid for one night and I went off in search of another hotel in the area for the next three nights. Negotiate with 5-6 and narrowed it down and for the deal done for only an extra $20/night/pp for a proper hotel with an actual functioning pool and free breakfast thrown in. Phew.

We all went for a walk and found a Perkins restaurant still open but had to get our food to go as they were closing in 15 minutes. Back to our motel from hell and wolfed down our food and admired the next room door with the five bullet holes in it. Seriously!!

Called it a night at 1030 and will sleep in and do breakfast at 10 tomorrow before biking around the area. What an adventure of a day. Wow.
