Summer Holidays 2022 are here at last!! Let the adventures begin!

After a ridiculously hectic spring at our respective jobs, we finally got yardwork finished and gardens planted and packed a very small carry-on bag each with a backpack, and headed to the airport the morning of June 30th bound for Boston Massachusetts! Krista has always wanted to tour the eastern seaboard so are starting in Boston and renting a car and headed west!

The airport was silly busy as you can imagine but we had 4 Westjet passes that expire today so we hit the Aspire Lounge and loaded up on breakfast! We filled a few Ziploc bags with muffins and snacks for the plane and headed to our gate at 1030 for our 11am flight.

Krista booked us the emergency row and so we got to board early - imagine our surprise when we found long time friend Kelly Ferguson to be our flight attendant!

She conveniently moved Jacob from the 5th row back to our row 14 with immense leg room!

We took off at 1115 and headed south to Boston!

The flight to Boston was mostly uneventful. We applied for a Brim credit card a few years ago which has no annual fee but gives you free Wi-Fi on every plane we’ve ever been on so that’s cool.

We were able to keep in touch with our oldest son Nicholas who was flying from toronto at the same time as we were but his 2 pm flight got delayed three times!

We landed under beautiful sunny skies and twenty five degrees. We grabbed a shuttle to the car rental and eagerly awaited receiving our hybrid Prius. Sadly all the gave us was a boring Honda Accord. It was a shiny pretty grey car though.

Once we figured out how to start it and get our GPS working, I noticed that the gas gauge showed the car half empty. I complained to the attendant and upon a closer look, it was the battery that was half full and that our accord wasn’t so boring after all - we got a hybrid!! This thing runs dead silent most of the time which is really cool!

Nicholas’ flight was delayed so we headed to the hotel 10 minutes away.

Boston’s roads are not just above ground but many close to the water are underground tunnels for miles and miles and our GPS satellite doesn’t work so well underground so it was a bit of a guessing game s as to which exit to take sometimes but we lucked out and made it there quite quickly.

The hotel wanted $50US/day parking so that wasn’t happening. We found street parking and even a meter with 2 hours left on it good til 8am. Perfect!

We checked in to the Element Boston Seaport which we booked on Scene points (of all things 😉🤪😆) for two nights - regularly $459US/night. Ouch. Nothing fancy but 2 beds and a full kitchen so that’s cool. Beautiful view of the seaport over the water and spectacular sunrises. Fairly close to the airport but no real noise to speak of.

We decided to tour around for a couple hours before Nicholas arrived. We headed downtown to Beacon Hill and went to Cheers for supper! Still a famous enough place filled with memorabilia from the 80s. It meant nothing to Jacob of course but Krista and I enjoyed it.

We walked around many of the parks to stretch our legs and as eager as I was to hear some stuff Bostonian accents, I couldn’t overhear a single one. Drat!

We jumped back in the car and popped over to the airport and Nicholas arrived at 10pm.

We headed back to the hotel and grabbed some Burger King for him as he was starving. We actually walked there from the hotel but only the drive thru was open so we had to walk back to the hotel and get the car in order to go thru. Sigh.

Thankfully, lots of weary travelling made for a quick lights out after being on our phones for an hour. The AC worked well and everyone had a good sleep! Let the adventures continue on Friday! Canada Day! Hooray!!
